Philip Goldsmith, PT, MSPT, EMT, DScPT, COS-C

Phil Goldsmith is running for President in the 2021 Board Elections.

I have been a physical therapist for almost twenty-three years, most of which has been spent in home health. I have worked for large, publicly-held agencies, privately owned agencies of various sizes, and not-for-profit agencies both hospital-based and free-standing. In addition, I have worked in skilled nursing facilities and outpatient clinics.

Currently, I am the owner of Goldsmith Therapy Solutions, a new venture providing both clinical and consulting services with a focus on home health. Consulting services include care navigation for clients with chronic disorders as well as providing compliance and quality assurance services to agencies. I also work on an as-needed basis for a number of skilled nursing facilities in my local area.

On a more personal note, I live in Hanover, Pennsylvania with my wife and eight year old son. I have been an EMT for twenty-eight years, and I volunteer for my local fire company, the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Company. I am one of their EMS Lieutenants, and I have primary responsibility for training, health, and safety initiatives. Other activities include spectator sports, cooking, and watching my son play lacrosse.

Candidate Statement
It is my goal to leverage my lengthy experience in financial leadership of APTA Home Health to provide visionary leadership as we transition from a Section to an Academy. While this change is more semantics than anything else, the mission to be the go-to resource for all things home health has not changed. In addition to ongoing projects focusing on a peer-reviewed journal, a new brand identity, and a strong internal focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, it is my intent to broaden the Academy's horizons.

While the Academy has long been known as expert in the traditional skilled home health arena, we are much more than that. I want to welcome anyone who practices in the home environment, whether in geriatrics, pediatrics, concierge medicine, hospital-at-home, SNF-at-home, or other entrepreneurial ventures. The focus moving forward will be on care provided in the home, no matter to whom, no matter by whom.

In this way, our Academy can grow. It can grow in numbers, it can grow in knowledge and talent, and it can grow in all of the ways that our members need and want it to grow!
