Sharon Siegel, PT, DPT

Dr. Siegel is running for Nominating Committee Member in the 2022 Elections.

I have been a practicing physical therapist for over 35 years, since having received my B. S. in Physical Therapy from Washington University School of Medicine Program in Physical Therapy in my hometown of St. Louis, MO.  I subsequently obtained my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2014.  My early career experience was in acute care and neurorehabilitation settings in both clinical and management positions, but I soon settled into the home health arena where I have remained for the majority of my career.  I continue to find my one-on-one interaction with patients in the home setting both productive and rewarding.  I ran a private practice for 10 years, focusing on home health services to pediatric and adult populations.  I am now privileged to work as a Physical Therapist III with Johns Hopkins Home Care Group where I have practiced for the past 15 years after having relocated with my family to Baltimore, Maryland.  I received OASIS certification in 2015 and 2018, and have participated in research projects, committee work, and program development in addition to patient care.  I particularly enjoy my role as preceptor, which has afforded me the opportunity to train many newly hired therapists who have remained valuable members of our team, and for which I was awarded the APTA Home Health Preceptor Award in 2019.   My personal interests include spending time with my husband of 33 years, as well as our 2 children and 2 young grandchildren; gardening; cooking; and volunteering at my local high school and a senior citizens facility in my area.  A member of the APTA continuously since 1985, I value the role our professional organization plays in enabling physical therapists to deliver necessary services to our communities in the setting that best suits our patients’ needs.

Candidate Statement

From my earliest days as a physical therapy student, I was taught the importance of giving back to our profession and supporting our professional organization in doing so.  I have fostered students and new employees in an effort to help achieve this mission, and have remained an ongoing member of the APTA since 1985.  I have been a member of the Home Health Section (now called the Academy of Home Health) for much of that time.  I have enjoyed watching the home health sector grow over the years with the shifting continuum of our health care system, and have seen increased recognition of the value of our unique services further enhanced by the recent COVID pandemic.  I value the role the APTA Academy of Home Health plays in advocating for, supporting and educating those of us that serve members of our community in the settings where they live. I look forward to helping identify and engage talented therapists who can help carry the torch into the future.
